Context · from the records

What was happening

Three names on the Wall carry the date May 8, 1972. In May 1972, 113 Americans whose names are on the Wall died in the war.

The unit recorded as “STAFF COMCRUDESFLOT 11”, his unit in the record, lost 2 of its members that month.

He died in North Vietnam while the Easter Offensive was under way. On 30 March 1972, North Vietnam launched its largest offensive since 1968, attacking across the DMZ, toward An Lộc and into the Central Highlands. By then few U.S. ground troops remained; American advisers and air power fought alongside the South Vietnamese.

His remains had not been recovered when the 2008 record was compiled. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency continues to search for Americans still missing from the war; families can find case information through dpaa.mil.
